WOW Gal Angel

Beatrice "Bea" Ann (Hutchinson) Mutton

Beatrice "Bea"  Ann (Hutchinson) Mutton was born in Trenton, Ontario.

She was the oldest of eleven children. While she stopped at 2 wonderful sons of her own she was making up the numbers again with her 6 grandchildren.

Named after her aunt Bea, the family called her Babe but the rest of us got to know through the years as our Bea.

After high school Bea married and moved to Colborne, Ontario where she quickly became a large part of her community.

She was a business owner, a seamstress who made wedding gowns and prom dresses, and a member of the Colborne Rotary Club.

She helped organize community events such as Apple Blossom Tyme and Ladies Night. She volunteered with the weekly free lunch at Prospect House. She had many friends and was always quick to lend a hand when needed.

Bea had a beautifully classic sense of style and a keen eye for the vintage aesthetic. She was intensely creative, enjoying sewing, sketching, and gardening. Bea was adventurous and loved to travel. She often planned adventures for her grandchildren.

There is more that could be said about Bea than will ever fit in anything written. She lived her life her way. Strong, independent, seeing the beauty in everything. She loved her family dearly. She had a kind heart. Her absence will leave a significant gap in the lives of her family, friends, and community.

These Heartfelt Comments About Bea are a Testament to how much She was Loved and is Missed:

When I worked at Presquile one summer in 1966 or 67 Bea and our friend Kathy Hough worked that summer with her too.   I think Bea was stripping beds and cleaning rooms and Kathy was doing laundry with a real scrub board that was hard on her fingers. I worked in the kitchen. While we didn't see each other as often as we would have liked during the day Bea was always laughing despite the work. It helped us more than she could have known.

Later in our lives Bea had a bush at her house that we also had in our front yard. Can't remember what the bush was called but I remember her saying your couldn't kill it but I did while hers kept on growing. She had a greener thumb than me with that one. Loved that she was always smiling and laughing. Pat (Patricia) Hutchinson

I’m so sorry 💔 Bea was an original - she was my mentor, my friend, a pillar of the community with her various local businesses and volunteer work (Rotary, Monday Lunch, many festivals over the years and so much more!). I’m going to miss my pal 😞 I got to work with her at the Cafe - laughing over burnt cookies because both of us forgot to put the timer on. She made the BEST egg salad sandwiches, and her chilli was out if this world! It was a pleasure and an honour to work alongside this amazing woman and call her friend. Please let me know if I can assist you in any way as you navigate this difficult time. Bea was well loved by the community as you know and she will be missed more than words can express.  Trish King

We shall miss Bea. We had so much fun, doing crafts, loved her fabric store and all her help as we dove into collecting Ty beanies for our grandkids. She must of thought we were crazy Nanas', arriving at her store before she had the box opened. She is in my heart, with many joyful memories. Oh yes remembering Ladies night at the Keeler Centre. She got us all hats. We all wanted the same hat. So much fun and lots of laughs. Thank you Bea. You are very much loved. Cheryl Ashbridge

Bea Mutton leaves Love, Ambition, successful Interactions, multiple project's everywhere she was connected. Bea gave her all to her family, friends, community, locally, county, provincially & where ever there was a need. Knowing Bea through my husband Rick’s years in Rotary & Colborne & community activities. Bea was multi talented, turning her hand to Arts & Crafts with beautiful creations. One, of my treasures is one of Bea’s male smiling Rag Dolls that Rick gave me & we always have lovingly displayed. Such a loss to family ,friends, Rotary, Colborne etc. memories & Bea’s influences will be so missed & never be forgotten. Thanks Bea for all you are & did. Blessings till we meet again. Duane Kensley Hoffman

Our deepest condolences to Bea's family. Bea was an amazing and selfless volunteer and was always ready to drop everything to help. In September of last year I suddenly needed an "original" signature representing the Colborne Rotary Club in a support letter for the library and I needed it within the hour as I had a deadline - I sent out an SOS and Bea appeared out of nowhere and signed as President of Rotary that year. A tiny example of how selfless she was with her time. Bea is a true example of what it means to be there for your community. On behalf of the library we are very grateful for your service Bea, may you rest in peace. Mary Norton, Cramahe Library

I was shocked, and so sorry, to hear that Bea had died. Bea was an amazing person; lively, creative, and intelligent in conversation, and practical, calm, and caring in a crisis. She looked after celebrated WW2 pilot, Vi Milstead Warren, for many years, always as a trusted friend, and as a very, very compassionate caregiver towards the end. She also was a kind companion to my husband, artist Tony Urquhart. As he declined, she often took him out on the rural roads in her car. Then, when he saw something he wanted to draw, Bea would park her car, and pull out her knitting, while he rendered the landscape. He was very fond of her, and felt understood by her. As did we all. Bea will be deeply missed by the community she served so generously. A truly gracious person, her loss will be felt all over Cramahe Township — and well beyond. Her many, many kindnesses will never be forgotten. Jane Urquhart

So enjoyed her Facebook postings along with her attitude towards life and helping others. I knew her through my sister Sharon and enjoyed her company at various dinners and libations with Sharon, Bea and other Colborne ladies. Bea you will be missed on so many levels. RIP. Sandra Mckey

She was a fiercely independent woman with an amazing sense of style and esthetics. She taught me to sew and crochet. She fed my love of making clothing. She made my wedding dress which made me feel like a princess. She loved her grandchildren more than anything and they loved her. She was creative and a talented artist. She played a huge part in her community. Erikka BriarRose Daughter-in-law

I personally met Bea when we lived on old English Settlement Road between Brighton & Trenton by the Old Murray Canal. While a couple of her siblings were more my age and she was much older than me she always made me feel like an equal because she immediately treated me like a friend. Later she even trusted me to put do her hair and her trust in my abilities led me to begin a career in hairstyling at the age of 16.

While we both moved in different directions after that I was so happy to reconnect on Facebook and loved her uplifting posts through out the years. I never dreamed we would be saying goodbye to her so soon. Carolyn Shannon
