Yvonne Peggy
(Caphum) Carson

A bright, cheerful and engaging child my Mom, Yvonne loved school and excelled at learning.

However, her dream of higher education was cut short with the start of World War 2.

At 15 yrs of age she had just started high school when her family was bombed out of their residence during the 'Blitz.

Old enough now to help in the war effort she became a member of the ATS and was attached to an anti-aircraft battery where she remained active till the end of the war.

In 1943 she met my father, Alex, a Canadian soldier stationed in England. They were married in 1945 and she agreed to immigrate to Canada, first settling in the greater Montreal area and later moving to Toronto my father's home town.

In 1947 Yvonne gave birth to my older brother Allan. Six years later she had three more children, 2 daughters and me, more or less in a row.

My mother sacrificed her dream of a higher education to raise a family and we benefited greatly as a family from her unselfish dedication and devotion to that task.

The most valuable lesson my Mother taught me is that the vagaries of life as we know it here on planet Earth necessitates the need for independence and self-reliance.

I have always felt the value and weight of her words and consider them to be the guiding light in my life.

Thanks Mom! You were the best!

My wife Mary loved her too and wanted to share the following:

When Bill and I started dating he introduced me to his family.

His mother, Yvonne, was so warm and welcomed me into the family with open arms. She was truly superb to me and even added that if I needed a Mom, she would be there for me.

She was a wonderful lady full of heart and determination. She loved her children immensely and did so much for them throughout the years.

I will never forget the time we were at a birthday event when she and I sat on the porch talking. She had me laughing so much, her humour was so amazing!

She always called me Ducky.  She would say, β€œCome and sit Ducky and we'll have a great time.”  I have missed her so much. She meant the world to me as well..  Yvonne I love youπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ
